Alphonse Marquis de Sade is a real historical character of the XVIII century. The personality is contradictory, audacious, unconventional, extremely sincere in his desires and views on love and passion. His charisma and inner strength attracted, and his influence on women remained inexplicable and all-consuming.
But our play is not about him. It's about the women who tied their fates to him. About how to live a single life with the constant thought of a person who both inspires and destroys, complicates the path, breaks dreams, leaves a mark on the soul.
Where is the line between love and addiction, passion and self-destruction? Everyone decides for themselves what is considered the norm and what is a perversion. The play asks questions about the nature of pleasure, the price of happiness, and why some individuals disappear without a trace while others remain forever in history. People remember them, argue about them, stage plays, make films, and write books even centuries later.
