On December 19, at the Almaty Theatre, Pyotr Vostokov’s Big Jazz Orchestra will perform the *Nutcracker* jazz suite by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
This is an iconic jazz reimagining of Tchaikovsky’s ballet score; first performed in 1960, it remains a benchmark of jazz Christmas classics to this day.
The Big Jazz Orchestra is one of the most sought-after jazz ensembles; it has been performing since 2010 under the direction of trumpeter Pyotr Vostokov, who has previously appeared in Almaty as a guest artist at the "Stages" jazz picnic and in the production *Happy People Sing* ("Schastlivye Poyut").
The program features not only the *Nutcracker* suite but also winter jazz hits by Count Basie and Les Brown, including "Siberian Sleighride" and "Snowfall."
