Where Are We Headed?

Tselinny Center of Contemporary Culture

Description

A documentary observation of life in the Moscow Metro, filmed over the course of a year as a road movie without main characters. The confined space of the Metro becomes a microcosm of the urban world and Russian society from the now-distant pre-war era, “before 2022.”

Belarusian director Ruslan Fedotov subtly captures both the intimate and the absurd elements of everyday life within this underground flow. Amid this ceaseless flow, the film raises the question: where does this collective movement in a confined space lead? Where are we going? We already know the final destination of this particular “road movie,” but the central question of this tragicomedy remains relevant.

Ruslan Fedotov’s first feature film won awards for Best Debut and Best Cinematography at the IDFA documentary film festival in Amsterdam in 2021.
